Punkin' Chunkin' is becoming as much as part of Thanksgiving tradition as turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce. For those unfamiliar, it's an annual extravaganza where teams (and more than 30 thousand fans) gather in a Delaware cornfield to see whose homemade weapon of war can propel a pumpkin the farthest. This year, Mythbusters hosts Grant Imahara, Kari Byron and Tory Belleci take viewers behind the firing line, getting up close and personal with the explosive contraptions and passionate participants who are gunning for eternal Punkin' Chunkin' glory.
The competition is divided into categories defined by the type of machine used, including air cannons, centrifugals, torsion machines and human-powered catapults. This year, the quest for the never-before-accomplished feat of a one-mile "chunk" continues, and every division is stocked with its own set of stakes and characters. Will the reigning queen of the air cannons defend her throne? Will a dreamer topple the centrifugals' 15-year dynasty? And will torsion's defending champs be the first mechanicals to make a run at the overall trophy? Brace yourselves...it's Punkin' Chunkin' time again.
